Mr. Vu Viet Dung was appointed Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in August, 2018. He arrived in Riyadh on December 18, 2018 to assume his duty.

Ambassador Dung started his career in 1978 when he entered the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. Having graduated as a bachelor of international affairs, he enlisted in the Army from early 1984 to mid-1986 upon duty completion and was assigned to the Department of the Americas, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) as a desk officer for US and Canada affairs. From 1997 to 2001, he served as Political Director for US and Canada affairs.

During the 2001-2004 period, he served at Embassy of Vietnam in the US. Coming back to Hanoi, he was then assigned back to the Department of the Americas. From August 2007 to February 2009, he served as Secretary to then Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, now Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. During that time, he was also Chief of the Secretariat, Executive Office, MOFA, holding the rank of Deputy Director General.

From February 2009 to October 2011, he served as Deputy Director General of the the Department of the Americas. He then was posted to Vietnam Embassy in Ottawa, Canada as Minister-Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission until Summer of 2015. From August 2015 to November 2018, he was Deputy Director General of the Asset and Budget Management Department, MOFA.

At interval through his foreign service career, Mr. Dung received overseas training. In 1988-1989, he took a training course for ESL enhancement and NGO introductory study in Canada. In 1995-1997, he pursued a Masters Degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, New York.

Ambassador Dung is married to Mrs. Hoang Phuong Anh. They have 2 children.
